Ghostwriting

Get your words on the page, without the headache

It all begins with an idea.

I specialise in ghostwriting non-fiction books and articles for people with deep knowledge in a niche area.

Maybe you know everything there is to know about Taiwanese agricultural practices, or you’re a rising star in the goldsmithing industry. Do you have a world record for hot-air ballooning? Perhaps you’re a neuroscientist with a contrasting interest in medieval literature. Whatever your passion is, I’m interested in interesting people. If you want to write but don’t know how to start, I want to hear from you.

My ghostwriting service is completely bespoke, tailored exactly to your needs. A few standard options are described below, but if you have something different in mind, please reach out. I’d love to hear from you.

Outlining a book

Sometimes you just need a little help to get started. My bespoke planning service will help you define the all-important concept that will drive your draft, map out a chapter-by-chapter progression, and document your target audience.

How it works:

  • Send an enquiry through the contact form.

  • I’ll set up an initial consultation to agree the scope of the project, pricing, and so on.

  • We’ll have a working session over Teams or Zoom where we’ll discuss the project in detail and I’ll get all the information I need to create a detailed outline. The length of this session will depend on the scope of the project.

  • I’ll use our conversation to create an outline and proposal document in MS Word.

What you will get

  • One detailed book outline in MS Word. The outline will contain suggested chapter headings, bullet lists of topics to cover in each chapter, and summary sections explaining the overall takeaways readers should have from each major section.

  • One complete proposal document in MS Word. The proposal document will include information about the book’s concept, readership, and goals. This can be useful to refer to when writing, and will also help other professionals (editors, agents, etc.) you may work with once you have a complete draft.

Writing chapters

Every book has at least one problem chapter. It might be a pivotal transition point in your manuscript, or maybe you need to communicate several complex ideas in a short space. Involving a ghostwriter can help resolve the issue before you lose momentum.

How it works:

  • Send an enquiry through the contact form.

  • I’ll set up an initial consultation to agree the scope of the project, pricing, and so on.

  • We’ll have a working session over Teams or Zoom where we’ll discuss the chapter and which elements are causing trouble. I’ll document the goals for the chapter so I know exactly what to prioritise.

  • I’ll use our conversation to rework the draft chapter or write a new chapter from scratch, whichever works better.

What you will get

  • One MS Word document containing the new chapter content.

  • One round of revisions included, with more available at an extra cost.

Writing a manuscript

Writing a book can take anywhere from three months to a whole year: a mammoth task! I love working with people who have loads to say, but who for one reason or another, need some help to get their ideas on the page.

How it works:

  • Send an enquiry through the contact form.

  • I’ll set up an initial consultation to discuss the idea and, if we both agree to move forward, define the scope of the project. I usually recommend splitting the contract and work plan up around the major project milestones.

  • We’ll agree a plan for the whole manuscript, including topics to be covered, goals for each chapter, intended audience, tone, wordcount, intended publishing platforms, and so on.

  • We’ll set up a series of virtual interviews (fitted around your schedule), during which I’ll ask you questions to get the information I need to write on your behalf.

  • I’ll use our conversations to write the draft and will submit chapters to you at regular intervals for your review and approval.

What you will get

  • One complete manuscript in MS Word (with the understanding that I have given up the copyright as detailed in the contract).

  • A folder of notes, draft copy, unused content, and planning materials.

  • Two rounds of revisions, with more available at an extra cost.

Pricing

Because each project is different, there is no easy way to break down pricing. However, I aim to be as transparent as possible, and will always explain the pricing up front when I understand the scope of the project.

I ask for a deposit of 20% total cost up front, to be payable upon signing a letter of agreement, after an initial consultation call (or email if you prefer).

For longer projects, I’m happy to structure the work plan and payment schedule into sections.

Let’s Work Together

Whether you have a fully-fledged book proposal or the smallest beginnings of an idea, I’d love to hear from you.
